Angie talks Anxiety
By Angie Cameron from direction.org.uk
None of us are immune to anxiety.
A lot of people end up in A&E because they think they have indigestion, or are having a stroke or a heart attack, when actually they have had a panic attack or are on the verge of one.
There are everyday struggles that give us anxiety, such as our to-do list, our workload, conversations with others, losing things, money worries, and then there are larger things such as grief, debt, changing job, retirement, moving house, depression, and eating disorders.
Anxiety is a general human condition.
We compare ourselves to other thinking that they don’t feel anxious, or we give ourselves a hard time for feeling anxious.
By turning away from anxiety, it can emerge as physical symptoms such as headaches, IBS, nerves, and eczema.
It takes courage to turn toward anxiety.
Try these:
Imagine anxiety was sitting next to you on the sofa, what would you say to it? What would it say back?
Ask yourself ‘what’s the worst that can happen and how much do I believe that could happen out of 100%?” Chances are it’s not very likely because our imagination is great and building stories and growing arms and legs!
Our breathe is free and it’s one of the greatest soothers we have. Use it as it brings comfort not only to the emotions though to the physical body and our thoughts. When we breathe counting to 3 and a longer slower breathe out to 4, neuroscience research tells us we release anxiety.
